MARCH 2010

For the past 23 years, all seventh grade students in the Sachem Central School District on Long Island, N.Y., have been trained in CPR as part of the district's Health Education curriculum. Health educators Lori Hewlett and Colleen Cosgro spearhead the training at Sequoya Middle School, which is one of the four middle schools in Sachem's district. Last year, one of their former students used the skills he had learned in health class to save someone in their community. Says Lori: "The students gain confidence after being in our classes. We're excited to know that we are helping to create a new generation of lifesavers who are making our community a safer place to live."
